If you wanted a lesson in patience with a horse you wouldn’t have been able to walk too far past Bart Cummings’ stable.
Paul Duncan could easily have been one of Bart’s disciples.

Fully 18 months ago Paul visited Karaka’s 2018 Ready To Run sale and brought home three lovely colts. True to Cummings’ theory, the first of that trio, Tavis Town, made his debut at the Gold Coast in mid-May and got the money at the first time of asking.

It was a class act all round because the handsome son of Tavistock had not had an official barrier trial and as an inexperienced horse was not helped at all by the lockdown.

Tavis Town is beautifully bred being from the family of Tudor Light and Our Tristalight and the main appeal he s closely related to class act Midnight Oil, who won the NZ Oaks and Lowland Stakes for Paul.

Ryan Moloney rode a lovely race, sitting patiently four back on the rail to the home turn. “I had to ask him late because he wasn’t entirely sure what he was doing,” said Moloney as be pulled the saddle off.

This is a definite improver.
