Atlantic Eagle has recorded his fifth career win, and second of this campaign, with victory in at Doomben today in the Benchmark 72 Hcp over 2000m
Ridden by Luke Tarrant, Atlantic Eagle found a good spot as the field left the straight for the first time, fifth one-off the fence and only three lengths from the pace-setters.
Tarrant was happy to hold his position until the field approached the final 600m, at which time, with a couple of horses commencing the runs three and four of the fence, he clicked Atlantic Eagle up a gear and onto the leading groups’ heels as the approached the home turn.
Angling to the outside to stake his claim, Atlantic Eagle had moved into third position at the top of the straight with the leading pair, firmly in his sights.
Inside the last furlong, Atlantic Eagle was claiming the leaders with every strong and proved too strong over the final 100m, coming away to record a strong half-length win.
