This Tavistock colt is a standout and in a startling way reminds PAUL of close relative MIDNIGHT OIL, who PAUL won the Gr 1 NZ Oaks with. The colt is a full brother to Midnitemagicman, who finished 4th in the NZ Derby before going to Hong Kong, where in just a short time he has already won HK$2.073 million racing as Little Island. The dam Keep Alight was a dual winner as the daughter of Our Tristalight, champion 2YO filly in NZ in 1991-92 and winner of the Australasian Oaks and South Australian Oaks. At stud Keep Alight also left Danske, a Gr1 winner and now successful sire. One of the great close-up members of the family is the outstanding Tudor Light, one of the great metric milers of her time.
Paul was so taken with this strapping colt he was determined to secure him and stretched his intended budget out to $120,000 to get the auctioneer’s nod. Even at that price he was sound buying, given Tavistock’s stud fee stands at $65,000. This colt looks a real runner.
